Team Walleye Hats and Embroidery Update

Hi Guys, This week we ordered new hats for the 2011 Opener. We hope you will all like them. This has been a custom for the last 28 years. We got our first hats for our Tenth Anniversary, and we have continued the tradition since then.

At our Twentieth Anniversary we began a tradition of having embroidered jackets made for every 5th year milestone. Our next milestone will be coming up in 2 years.

We have gone through the complete history of apparel printing and embroidery
methods. The companies that have done our hats and jackets have come and gone, or completely disappeared and could not be found the next year.

For the past dozen or more years we have been using Creative Custom Embroidery for our hats and jackets.
CCE has expanded into digital media and changed thier name to Ink Monster.Inc.
They are currently located at 737 Main St Anoka.

Many of us have had additional shirts, etc. embroidered by them for past openers. If you have a nice shirt, jacket, etc. that you may want to add our logo
to just drop it off to them by the end of April. Tell them you are with Team Walleye and they can do just about anything you want at a reasonable price.

Team Walleye the Begining

I thought that I would fill you all in on how Team Walleye was started. On
Memorial Day weekend of 1973, five of us; Scott Benson, Ron Edberg, Mark Mayerich, Mark Taylor, and Gary Ullom spent the holiday weekend at Leech Lake. We did OK. That trip inspired us to make the next years Opening Fishing trip at Leech Lake.

1974 was our first Opener on Leech. Scott brought his Glastron runabout, and I brought my Dads Alumacraft. We did'nt do to good. But it gave us the start
to continue our openers at Leech.

The next year we decided to get closer to the main part of the lake, so we moved over to Pine Point.

A few years later in the late 70's we had a trophy made, it would be passed
each year to the guy that got the biggest fish.

We never thought in those early years that this tradition would go on as far
as it has. 38 years, dam I'm getting old, but I'm loving every opener, and looking forward to the next.

Welcome to Team walleye 2011

Hey Guy's, this is kind of a kickoff for the upcomming 2011 Team Walleye Opener this comming spring. i know it's early, but thats the way it has been for years.

I have recieved a few deposits so far and I'm sure the rest will arrive in the next week or so. We will need to forward them to Brindley's by the 24th of January.

The resorts rates have not changed significantly from last year, but Brindley"s has made some major improvements. They are building a new duplex log cabin on the site of cabins 1 & 2, and moved cabins 1 & 2 to a new location to the west of were we are.

The new accomidations looked intriging, and we thought that we could go for an upgrade. Even though the new log cabin slept 25, most of that was with double beds, and over $300 more. The new location of cabins 1 & 2 was off lake and much cheaper. But alas checking the availability calendar on the website in December showed that all those units were reserved for the opener already. We will still occupy our same Team Walleye Compound as the past few years.

You can check on the changes at Brindley's website (linked on the left) and review all the rates and info found there.

I have challenged myself to regularly update this blog over the next few months with information, tips, and history to make our next Opener even better than the last.
