2008 It was a very good year.

Last years Leech Lake Opener has to go down in our history as the best ever!
We've limited out many times, and have overlimited many times as well (Having to cook up some excess catch). On the other hand we've had a few slow years as here and there.

But 2008 was exceptional in the number of trophy size walleyes. I personally thought I had the trophy and the 50 bucks locked up on Saturday with a 25"er. By the end of the trip I was't even in the running.

Our total catch was 178 walleyes. Of those 144 had to be released because they were over the 18" keepable size! Our average size was 23". I don't thing any of us have caught this many lunker walleyes on any single trip. Let's hope 2009 can be as rewarding, and maybe we can find some of those smaller fish for our freezers.
